As someone who has casually collected Breyer horses on and off for many years, I have had my fair share of wobbly and broken models. I recently thrifted this Standardbred model and found that it could not stand on its own. It was at this point I decided that I could probably make a quick wood display to save it.
1. Gather materials
To make this project yourself, you will need:
- A wobbly or broken Breyer horse model
- A piece of wood (or any other platform of your choosing)
- Hot glue (or any fast setting adhesive)
- Optional: paint/stain for the wood (I liked the clean look of bare wood so I skipped finishing it)
2. Assembly
First, I cut the wood to have about 2 inches on either side of the model’s front and back foot (which turned out to be around 15 inches).
I then positioned the model on the board where I wanted to attach it. Careful not to move it too much, I lifted the Breyer slightly and marked with a pencil where the feet connected with the wood.
Finally, after my hot glue gun was ready, I placed 3 generous dollops of glue on each mark and placed the model squarely on the marks. After a minute or so, the glue was cool and I had a standing model!-
NOTE: If you would like to paint or stain your Breyer horse display, I would recommend doing so before attaching the horse. Seems like a no-brainer but my impatient butt would have definitely made that mistake. 🙂
