10 Crafty Ways to Reuse Feed Bags Around the Farm

Are you being overrun with empty feed bags? Almost every barn I have been to seems to have an abundance of these empty, plastic receptacles. Luckily, there are tons of ways to reuse them! Check out these 10 awesome ways to reuse feed bags around the farm or stable!

Trash bags

This one is the easiest and most common way to reuse feed bags. Prop the bag up on its own or drop it into an existing trash can. Bam! Instant trash bag. When it’s time to toss them, just take a little duct tape to close them up!

DIY tote bag

Feed bags can make great, durable tote bags with a little effort and a sewing machine. Check out Fresh Eggs Daily’s post about making your own fed bag tote!

Drop cloth for paint

As someone who loves to spray paint things, I have used many a feed bag as a drop cloth. Cut open the bags to create a larger work surface when necessary.

Easy fill hay nets

Filling hay nets can be a chore (especially when the net just won’t stay open). Solve this issue by placing your desired amount of hay into a feed bag, place the net over the bag (open end of bag towards bottom of hay net), and pull the feed bag out. Perfect and easy filling every time!

Dirty laundry/towel holder

Instead of making a dirty horse towel pile in the corner, prop up a feed bag for an instant laundry bin.

Recycling bin

Feed bags can make great recycling bins as well! Toss empty water bottles, cans, or paper products in them. When it comes time to empty them, simply tip them out into the main recycling bin and they are ready to be filled again.

Planning a get-together but don’t have a cooler? Fill a feed bag with ice and place your drinks inside. Instant party cooler!

Snow and mud covered boots can make a mess of your floor quickly. Place an empty feed bag on the floor to help contain the mess. This trick also works for muddy boots in the car!
